The brains behind High Fibre + Low Fat

Meet Annabel, the brains behind our new High Fibre + Low Fat Oat Milk, we sat down with Annabel to hear more about how this milk came into existence and what makes it so unique!
Hi Annabel! You’re a bit of a swiss army knife, but can you tell us what you actually do for Otis?
Hello! I am the head of Research & Development at Otis. I also assist in other departments such as operations and export. My true passion though is creating new products so I am very excited about the launch of our new milk; High Fibre + Low Fat!
What inspired High Fibre + Low Fat Oat Milk?
Inspired by our audience’s love for high fibre and no seed oils, we set out to create a functional, everyday milk with added benefits. We added fibre, removed the oil, and chose Chicory root for its gut-friendly fibre and prebiotics. It’s clean, versatile, with no added sugar, lactose-free, high in calcium, seed oil-free, and packed with vitamins B2, D2, and B12.
Can you tell us more about chicory root?
Chicory root comes from the chicory plant (Cichorium intybus), a perennial herb which is a root vegetable, similar looking to a parsnip. The root is known for its nutritional benefits and has been used for centuries in both culinary and medicinal contexts. In plant-based beverages, chicory root is typically used for its high fibre and prebiotic benefits.
What makes this product unique?
First and foremost, it is seed oil free! On top of being a milk with added fibre and prebiotics, it is also high beta glucan from NZ grown oats, as well as having no added sugars, gums or emulsifiers. We have successfully made a clean label milk without compromising on taste or quality.
Can you tell is something surprising that happened when developing this product?
One of our great discoveries when formulating the product was the added mouthfeel and creaminess the chicory root adds!
What’s your favourite way to use this product?
I love using this milk in the morning on porridge and in smoothies. I have also been baking with it as well, and have been using it a lot in my banana bread, it’s so good!
If you could give a life time’s supply of this this milk to anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
I would pick Eluid Kipchoge (first man to run a sub 2:00 marathon), who has been famous for saying his morning breakfast before any race is oatmeal. As an inspired runner I would love to top his breakfast with our High Fibre- Low fat milk!
